Rural areas where learners have to cover a significant distance to get to class can save time and money by taking online courses remotely.
I have seen many times remote classes where students from a city got to work from home to get to class and in turn saved money as they did not have to go to a physical place for their classes. In these cases, classes were given from behind a firewall allowing more privacy for the class.
Sometimes, class is given at a physical location and the class was live and students had to use public transport and bus stops to get to the class and this is where privacy can be increased as no one can see in or out.
Classes where you teach from a laptop or workstation are great when you can write notes during class time or use the power sockets to charge the laptop or workstation.
For most remote classes that were taught from home, there is still the need to install a router or firewalls in the home to allow connections to be made to the remote classes. In fact, the router/firewall might be the only connection that you need to make to remote classes where you taught from a laptop or workstation.
Sometimes, due to the remote locations where remote classes were taught from, connections might be more difficult to make to the remote classes. In this case, the Firewall is not installed and you are still fine to teach from home. You can use your home router or workstation to connect your home class to your remote site.
There are some remote sites where you need a temporary router for class connection. The router is installed the next day after class is complete. In some cases, a temporary router is not required. However, if a temporary router is required, it must be installed in a location where it can be reached without network cables.
Only the class member can install the temporary router and it cannot be connected to the outside world. This location must be approved by the instructor and can only be connected to the outside world to install and configure the temporary router. The temporary router can be disconnected from the outside world when the class is finished for the day.
When you are in a remote location and connect to the outside world, you need temporary access. This access is installed on your home network and any person that wants to connect to the outside world must connect to your home network.
It is crucial to install the temporary access in a remote location that is easy to reach by public transport. In other cases, installing the temporary access is not necessary and you can teach from your laptop or workstation during the day. It can be disconnected from the outside world the same day.
The following images show two remote locations where the temporary access is installed. You can see that the temporary access is installed as external hard drive and connected to the router to install the class packets. The access is not connected to the laptop computer. You can teach from the laptop computer or workstation during the day and disconnect the access from the outside world the same day.
“No one outside the class can install class packets and it is only you, your laptop or the workstaion that install temporary routers. You can always uninstall class packets at anytime and it is not necessary to connect the temporary router to the outside world.”
